Trustee's Statement Contradicts Post-Gazette Story

Penn State board member Eckel talks about the child-abuse scandal quotes Trustee Keith Eckels as follows.

The first, Keith W. Eckel said, that he learned of allegations that Jerry Sandusky molested young boys was the day the former Penn State University assistant football coach was formally charged with crimes.

Neither he nor, Eckel believes, anyone else on the Penn State board of trustees, knew of the 1998 and 2002 incidents involving Sandusky until that weekend, said Mr. Eckel, 64

That's very interesting in light of Penn State board was told of Sandusky grand jury in May

The briefing did give trustees official confirmation -- nearly six months before Mr. Sandusky's arrest -- of an active grand jury investigation.

This reference cannot confirm that the 1998 and 2002 alleged incidents were discussed explicitly but it is a fact that the Trustees knew that Sandusky was being investigated.
